Lauren’s House

Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn. Lauren’s House 4 Positive Change is a nonprofit organization that fills people’s lives with hopes and aspirations. Our society is divided into various sections. One can say we are different colors of the same rainbow, it is just that some colors need more light to shine. Our organization strides to be that light in the lives of at-risk children, youth and families from San Mateo County, preparing young people for success in life by exposing them to the beauty and possibilities of their lives despite their hardships.

Education and love are two aspects in life that support us through difficult times. Education empowers us to explore new possibilities while love gives us the emotional stability to work harder. As per NCCP, “Children affected by multiple risks – three or more risk factors – are the most likely to experience school failure and other negative outcomes, including maladaptive behavior”

Our aim at Lauren’s House is to primarily fulfill these necessities in the lives of at-risk children, youth and families.

We provide free after-school and summer programs to low-income and homeless children and youth ages 5-18 years, and their families.including services for their families. We focus on the overall development of individuals. Through art, physical activity

and enrichment activities we help them develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Classroom success depends a lot on support provided to them through tutoring and mentoring. This also gives them the opportunity to build positive relationships with mentors and others.

Physical activities are a must to keep us healthy, but also a way to cope with anger and frustration. So, we have included swimming in the summer and bike riding throughout the year to support healthy development of mind and body of each client. At-risk families undoubtedly need emotional strength. Periodically workshops are conducted. Christ-Centered activities and community service projects are provided to instill no matter what they experience they were created with a purpose.

Above all, we strive to instill values of hope, love and courage, so they learn to cope with their fears and become great citizens of our society.
